Jetlag: the bane of every traveler’s existence. It may seem obvious, but the real secret to not suffering the curse of jetlag is to maintain a good diet, drink plenty of water, get some regular exercise and on the day before the trip, avoid your good friends alcohol and caffeine.
But for globetrotters who need a little extra help, it might be time to look into “kettles”, weekly health kits already popular in spots like Rio and São Paulo that consist of up to 4 meals a day and are adapted to the client’s diet.
Spa Maria Bonita in Rio has developed weekly menus that can be purchased by both its members and the general public. The father of the concept was Canadian-born Chantal James, in partnership with the Spa. “The idea came about because many people come to the spa and, after a week of treatment and good food, had difficulty in following the same routine at home.”
The Spa offers two main options, the “7 Day Kit” and the “Soup Kit”, composed of 14 prepared vegetable-based meals, all of which are gluten-free, lactose-free and 100% natural. All ingredients come live and direct s from the Spa’s on-site garden and neighboring farms, all organic and fresh from the ground to your table. “People are increasingly disconnected from the food they eat, they don’t think about what they are eating. We view healthy eating as a kind of preventive medicine.”
In addition to the menu, the Spa also curates an informative blog that offers information on superfoods and numerous recipes that, according to Chantal, are great tasty companions to foods in both kits. Essentially, great choices for those who enjoy cooking and those who think that healthy eating is just salad.
So the next time you’re in Ipanema, be sure to visit Maria Bonita’s new space and ensure a great trip home, minus the jetlag.Best City Guide to Sao Paulo, Insider guide to Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo
