When you think of Sao Paulo or “Sampa” as it is known more colloquially, the first thoughts that spring to your mind are the stunning skyscrapers, amazing architecture and its fascinating history. But what should be, and what soon will be your first thought, is its nightlife. We recommend Vila Olimpia in particular, by day a charming upper class area known for its posh executive apartments but by night, the throbbing heart of Sao Paolo’s nightlife. Whether you are there on vacation or a local Paulista, there’s something for you.
There is an abundance of bars, clubs, and restaurants, but in our opinion “Buena Vista” is the place to go, a dance club where not only can you show off your skills on the dance floor, but for those of us who dance with two left feet, you can take lessons in various different types of dance. From Salsa to Zouk to Merengue, each evening has a different theme of music and dance, which, come the early hours of the morning, if you’re still going strong, are mixed together, and becomes what is described by some as rather “dizzying” but by others as truly epic.
With live music and DJ’s who keep the dance floor going throughout the night, this is one destination certainly not to be missed. Featuring more Brazilian music that Cuban, it’s an authentic dance club, frequented by the locals, so you’re bound to come away having had a completely unforgettable Brazilian experience. (And hopefully some sassy skills to show off back home…) For more info check out their website.
